You can experience the making of their famed Kojima jeans first-hand at their Tokyo Ebisu Workshop! With high-quality Okayama denim as the base, choose your favorite leather patch, buttons, and rivets to make a truly unique pair of jeans!
  • With the hope to transmit the quality of Okayama’s premium jeans to the world, Betty Smith opened this workshop in the world city, Tokyo. This is a great and easy way to experience Okayama jeans’ craftsmanship.
  • From a wide selection of buttons, rivets and leather patches, you can choose your favorites and attach them to the jeans. The process of choosing is part of the fun!
  • An original tote bag is gifted to all participants!

      Kurashiki City of Okayama Prefecture, known for its historical tourism district, is also known as the birthplace of Japanese jeans. 
      Okayama Prefecture and namely Kurashiki City continue today to produce high-quality Japanese-made denim known widely with names such as “Okayama denim” “Kurashiki denim” and “Kojima denim”.

    • Betty Smith Tokyo Ebisu Workshop
      Betty Smith’s Tokyo Ebisu Workshop stands at a 6-minute walk from JR Ebisu Station, in the 5th floor of a building. Look for “Betty-chan”, the company mascot character on the logo. Get ready for your Kojima denim-making experience! 
    • Make your Jeans Unique! Pick your Materials
      It’s time to get to work. First, decide on a pair of jeans that will be your base. There is a wide variety of sizes and designs, including regular, straight, and skinny fits.
      Next, choose your favorite buttons, rivets, and leather patches. Take your time and pick the parts that will make your pair of jeans unique! 
    • Experiencing the Buttoning Machine
      Now that you have your pair of jeans and hardware, it’s finally time to put them together. Just like in the company’s main Kojima factory in Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, you will get to experience the real buttoning machine used by the craftsmen. Detailed instructions will be provided by the staff, so no experience is needed.
      For people living around Tokyo, or who don’t have access to Okayama, Betty Smith’s Tokyo Ebisu Workshop is a great opportunity to experience the craftsmanship of their jeans!
    • It’s Complete! Your Unique Pair of Kojima Jeans
      Once the hardware is attached, your unique pair of Kojima jeans is complete! Kojima jeans are typically somewhat expensive because of the high-quality denim used, but this is a great opportunity to get a pair at a reasonable price! To top it off, the precise craftsmanship of the jeans make them very durable. Enjoy the jeans’ aging process as it slowly grows a unique patina, and becomes a lasting partner to your everyday life! 
    • Betty Smith Jeans Museum & Village
      The Betty Smith Jeans Museum & Village is located in the Kojima district of Kurashiki City, Southern Okayama Prefecture, This is an amusement area run by Kurashiki’s long-time jeans producer, Betty Smith, and the entire area is designed to a cute, village-like aesthetic. The “Jeans Museum” and “Jeans-making Experience Factory” exhibit and preserve significant documents related to Japanese jeans, and the showroom and outlet shop display new products. The area has plenty of venues for you to enjoy exploring, creating, and shopping!
