    • Jewels or soap? The hot topic, "jewel soaps"
The light-refracting jewels that you see in the pictures, are actually pieces of soap. They are “jewel soaps”, made to sparkle just like real precious stones, and have been under the spotlights of many media outlets.
The jewel soaps contain a high concentration of naturally-moisturizing glycerine, and are greatly nourishing for the skin. With their vibrant transparency, these jewel soaps make for great decorations too. All you need to make them is a microwave and some patience, so it’s easy to reproduce them at home too!
    • Where is the soap making experience?
Head to where the soap making experience will take place! “JDSA Tokyo” is in a building only a 3-minute walk away from Akihabara Station. The white-based interior is filled with soap making equipment, and will fill you with anticipation for all the colors and scents you’ll be able to choose from!
    • Make your own original soap
This experience will let you make your own jewel soap using professional methods! Using the wide selection of samples, decide first what colors and scents you want to add to your soap. There are more than 50 options for scents alone! Pick your favorite scented oils and natural fragrances.
Picture the soap you want to make, and take your time. If you feel lost, you can ask your instructors for recommendations!
    • Manufacturing process
Once you’ve decided on your colors and scents, it’s time to put them together. Heat the soap to melt it, and measure it into a paper cup.
Add soap-pigment and essential oils for color and fragrance, and pour it all into a mold. When you do this, you’re aiming to make clean layers to make it look like a perfect jewel.
    • Your jewel soap making experience is complete!
Once the soap solidifies, you’re almost done. The soap will be about the size of two pudding cups, so cut it down to 3-5 pieces. Wrap them up, and your jewel soap is complete,
Don’t forget to get some snaps of the photogenic jewel soaps, and share them on your social media!
The acronym in “JDSA Tokyo” stands for “Japan Design Soap Association.” This store specializing in handmade soap was the first in Japan to establish the “Design soap” qualification. The store has a vast selection of safe soap ingredients and fragrances, and also sells a variety of materials, tools, and soap making kits. This makes it a great place to experience soap making, for those who might want to continue it at home!
