Sushi is one of Japan’s most famous culinary cultures worldwide, and includes many sub-types such as “chirashi-zushi” and “nigiri-zushi”. “Maki-zushi”, or sushi rolls, are one of those types too. The sushi roll can pack all kinds of ingredients in a compact, bite-size piece!
With a little bit of creativity and careful rolling, this sushi roll can become an adorable piece of art! The “decoration sushi” that you’ll be making in this class shows cute images on its section, making it a great addition to parties and gatherings. In this sushi making class, you’ll be creating the face of a bear in a heart-shaped sushi roll!
    • The Sushi Making Class Begins! Introducing & Prepping the Recipes
To begin your cooking class, the instructor will give you an in-depth presentation on the recipes. They’ll teach you about Japanese traditional cooking’s tools and seasonings too! Once that’s done, it’s time to get prepping. Traditional Japanese cooking is characterized by intricate handiwork and delicate tastes, and requires some difficult procedures. No worries though, because your instructor is there to teach you everything you need!
    • Prepping Ingredients for the "Decoration Sushi"
It’s finally time to make your decoration sushi roll! Place a layer of rice on the seaweed, and load it with a colorful cast of seasonal ingredients. By adding color to rice, or using finely chopped ingredients, all kinds of shapes and colors can be expressed in the sushi roll. Place your ingredients while imagining what you’re going for!
    • Rolling the Sushi: Harder than you Think?
It’s finally time to roll up the fresh seasonal ingredients into sushi! Place a layer of rice on the dried seaweed along with the ingredients, and roll it up using a “makisu” mat. It’s harder than it might look; you need to maintain firm pressure on the sushi for it to maintain its shape, and become a beautifully crafted sushi roll!
Along with your sushi rolls, you’ll be making miso soup. This is where the “dashi” broth you made before will shine!
    • The Decoration Sushi Roll is Complete!
Cutting your sushi roll is the moment of truth. Will your cute bear face come out clean? Your colorful decoration sushi roll is complete!
