    • What is a Clay Cake?
A clay cake is a decorative cake, made from a resin clay that is lighter and more durable than paper and soil-based clay. The idea of gifting a decorative cake might make you think of birthday parties and wedding ceremonies, but this one is a little different. The baby-shoes cake that you’ll make in this class commemorates the birth of a child, and is decorated by a little pair of shoes on top!
    • The Clay Crafts Class Begins! Making your Clay Baby-Shoes Cake
After some instructions, your clay cake-making begins! First, you should take the resin clay into your hand and feel its softness. The soft sensation as it wraps around your fingers just makes you want to keep playing with it!
The base color can be chosen between baby-blue and baby-pink. The decorations and baby-shoe design are completely up to you, and is where your sense of aesthetic will shine. You can engrave the baby’s initials into the side of the cake, or add a card showing the baby’s birth-weight. The end result will be full of your love for the baby!
    • End of the Clay Crafts Class: Your Hand-Made Baby-Shoe Cake is Complete!
Place the clay shoes on top, finish up the design, and you’re done! Your hand-made baby-shoe cake is complete! The clay cake is a lasting, non-perishable memento of a special memory, and also makes a great gift to friends and family! When the baby is grown-up, the clay cake will serve as an occasional reminder to when they were but a little baby!
    • Atelier Hana-ya
Your clay cake-making class will take place in “Atelier Hana-ya”, a crafts workshop in Nerima, Tokyo. Under the concept of “enriching people’s lives with flowers”, Atelier Hana-ya hosts many craft classes where you can learn how to make pressed flowers, clay crafts, herbariums, and more!
Your instructor is an expert of pressed flowers who has published books on the craft, made TV appearances, and even taken on animation productions using pressed flowers. Not only does she have craft classes, but also a variety of lesson courses that are certified to grant qualifications!
