Goshiki-numa is a cluster of swamps and lakes located in the town of Kita-shiohara in Fukushima prefecture. Some of these lakes are known for their amazing, vivid shades of blue. The lakes and swamps were created after Mount Bandai erupted in 1888. The debris from the eruption dammed a nearby river, creating these many lakes and swamps. You can walk along the Goshiki-numa Nature Trail to see the eight most popular lakes and swamps. The trail is an 8-kilometer round trip and is relatively flat, making it an easy path for novice hikers. You can ride a boat on Lake Bishamon, the largest of the Goshiki-numa lakes and swamps. The boat ride allows you to enjoy Goshiki-numa’s nature from a close distance.
