Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution

Hito to Mirai Bosai Center

The Hito to Bosai Mirai Center, also known as the Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institute in Kobe was established in 2002, in memory of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake of 1995. There, you can learn about the dangers and effects of natural disasters and how to best prevent damages caused by them. There are two buildings to the institution, the West Building and the East Building/ The West Building has an earthquake experience theater, where you can see and feel what going through a major earthquake is like. In the East Building, a documentary about the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami is played. There is also an exhibit showing the effects and aftermath of the tsunami. There is a restaurant and a gift shop in the institution as well. In the gift shop, you can find Kobe souvenirs and disaster emergency kits and items.
