Chion-in Temple

Chion-in Temple is famous as the head temple of Jodo-shu Buddhism. This was where Honen, the founder of Jodo-shu Buddhism, found salvation and spent his last years. Chion-in is also well known amongst the Japanese, as this is a popular temple to hear "joya-no-kane" (除夜の鐘), the bells striking on New Years Eve.
