Kibitsu Shrine
Kibitsu Shrine
Kibitsu Shrine is located in Okayama City, in the southeastern part of Okayama Prefecture. Kibitsuhiko-no-mikoto, portrayed as Momotaro in the Japanese folk tale “Momotaro”, is enshrined here. Mythology of Momotaro has been passed down to the Kibitsu Shrine, where the neck of a demon, beaten by Momotaro, is said to have been buried.
The buildings of the shrine, which were reconstructed in the Muromachi Period, houses many national treasures. There is so much to see, such as the shrine buildings using Kibitsu-zukuri (the only to use this architectural style in Japan), and cloisters taking advantage of the natural slope. Anyone can visit the shrine freely and receive good luck for marriage, harmonious marriage, safe delivery, and longevity.
You can experience a special Shinto ritual called Narukamashinji at Kibitsu Shrine. The sound of brown rice in the iron kettle tells you if your wish will come true.
