Gokayama Folklore Museum
Gokayama Folklore Museum
Within the Suganuma gasshō-style village in Nanto of Toyama prefecture, there is the Gokayama Folklore Museum. The museum uses the exterior of a gasshō-styled house with a reconstructed interior. The Gokayama Folklore Museum exhibits approximately 300 household items and folk custom documents. A view of the past tools and clothing used for gunpowder production, tableware, shoes, and other items can be viewed here. Tools used in the second most important industry, the sericulture industry, are displayed in the attic. Next door is the Saltpeter Museum(Enshō no Yakata), which is like an annex to the Gokayama Folklore Museum. The processes of gunpowder production are re-enacted in a fun and easy to understand way with dolls and shadow pictures.
