Haba House
The Haba house can be found in the Gokayama settlement of Nanto city in Toyama prefecture. It was built during the early Edo period and is a precious home made in the oldest form of the gasshō-style home. The Haba house has had very little remodeling done, and is an extremely rare example of the early gasshō-style. It has been registered as an Important Cultural Property for that reason. One of its traits is that it is smaller than the other gasshō-style homes in Gokayama. There are only four rooms including a living room and sleeping quarters. The interior is not open to the public, so visitors can only tour the outside of the house. However, there are times that a small window for sweeping out dust is open and the inside of Haba house can be seen for a short while.
