Sakurajima
Sakurajima
Sakurajima is an active volcano in Kagoshima city. With a diameter of about 55 km, Sakurajima majestically sprawls over the ocean. The sight of Sakurajima emitting smoke from its peak is an iconic sight that has come to symbolize Kagoshima, and its inspiring natural grandeur attracts approximately 2 million visitors every year.
Once you arrive at Sakurajima, head straight to the Sakurajima Visitor Center. They organize various tours, such as guided walks with volcano experts, and kayak trips to a hot spring in the middle of ocean. Other unique activities include baking pizzas over from volcanic heat, and making art projects using volcanic ash.
If you want to try something challenging, rent a bicycle at the Visitor Center and ride around the island.
