Yamakawa Sunamuchi Onsen Sayuri (sand bathing hot spring)
Yamakawa Sunamuchi Onsen Sayuri (sand bathing hot spring)
Yamakawa Sunamushi Onsen (sand steamed hot spring) Sayuri is located in Kagoshima’s southern city of Ibusuki. It is part of a wellness facility called Healthy Land, which houses public baths, a restaurant and other services.
Sand steamed bathing involves burying oneself in hot volcanic sand. Locals have practiced this natural bathing method since the olden times. Nowadays, it is popular with tourists.
The best part of the sandbathing experience is the sweeping views of Mt. Kaimon-dake. The warm sand and the sound of the waves have a calming effect and leaves bathers rejuvenated. After bathing in the sand, dip into the adjacent Fushime hot spring for further relaxation. Bathing in the sand and hot springs causes sweating that removes toxins from the body.
The nearby Tamate-bako hot spring is popular for its two open-air baths with panomaric views of Mt. Kaimon-dake and other hills in the distance. Whichever bath you choose, the landscape will ease your mind and body.
Sand bathing and open-air baths are perfect ways to recharge your batteries.
