Shoji Ueda Museum of Photography

Shoji Ueda Museum of Photography
Shoji Ueda Museum of Photography is in Houki town, western Tottori prefecture. This museum exhibits the works of the world-famous photographer Shoji Ueda.
It opened in the town next to Sakaiminato, which is Mr. Ueda's hometown. The modern design, consisting of four white concrete buildings, is based on the motif of Ueda's masterpiece "The Girl's Four States'' and is designed to harmonize with the surrounding rural landscapes and Mt. Daisen. The building is like a picture frame that beautifully encompasses the scenery of Mt. Daisen, an ideal museum design for Mr. Ueda who loved the mountain.
Mr. Ueda's distinctive style is so highly valued that it created a new genre titled "UEDA-Cho (Ueda tone)", and his works continue attracting people even in modern times. The museum exhibits 15,000 works, including photographs focusing on combining innovative ideas and the Tottori sand dunes. It is said to be a sacred place for camera lovers.
The Video Exhibition Room which is equipped with the world's largest camera lens, lets you experience the feeling of being inside a camera.
