Kiyomizu-dera Temple is one of the representative temples in Kyoto. The temple was founded about 1,200 years ago, and is built on a slight hill. The stage area in front of the main hall locates 12 meters above ground level, and is open for night viewing just 3 times a year. Although the temple burned down several times in fires, the one today was built in 1633 and still stands strong. Kiyomizu-dera is especially popular during cherry blossom and fall foliage season. Near the entrance of the temple are retro-style streets with shops and cafes, where you can have some Japanese green tea and traditional snacks.
