To-ji Temple
To-ji Temple, also known as Kyouougokokuji Temple, is loved by many for Kyoto's symbolic five-storied pagoda. The tower was built 1,200 ago in accordance to the transfer of Ancient Kyoto's capital. Later on, this temple became the main temple for the Shingon sect after being entrusted by Kukai. Upon your visit, you must see the Five-Story Pagoda. It is the tallest pagoda in Japan with a height of 55 meters. In 1994, this pagoda was designated as a World Cultural Heritage Monument. On the 21st day of every month, To-ji Temple opens up a market with lots of food and antiques.
