Sakamoto Monzen Town

The Sakamoto Monzen town, located in Otsu City of Shiga Prefecture, has been registered as a World heritage and is home to Enryaku-ji temple, Hiyoshi Shrine, and Saikyo-ji temple. This town is also known as the town of small village temples because priest who have finished their mountain training are sent to the 50 temples spread out throughout the town. The beautiful stone walls, tea gardens, and reception halls make up Sakamoto's ambience. During the Meiji period, many pilgrims faced hardships and distress at these places, however, in present day, it has become a calm place for priests to live. It is a short distance from Enryaku-ji temple. Please come visit this historic area.
