Gokasho

Gokasho
Gokasho is located in Higashioumi City of eastern Shiga Prefecture. Not only is the area a National Important Traditional Buildings Preservation District but also has been registered as a Japan Heritage spot. This town was used as a Oumi merchant area from the Kamakura period to the Showa period. Inside the town, you can see a line of residences of merchants from that time period. Specifically, the residence home of the Uhee Tonomura, a famous merchant for selling dried goods, and the residence of the man who build hundreds of shops on the Korean peninsula, Ichiro Nakamura, are two big sites to see.
