Hikone Castle
Hikone Castle is located in the center of Shiga Prefecture, on the eastern shore of Lake Biwa. Hikone Castle, one of the most famous castles in the world, was built about 400 years ago, by the command of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, taking about 20 years to build. In 1956, it was designated as a National Historic Site for its well preserved, the national treasure castle tower, yagura, and moats. The Hikone Castle Museum has arts and crafts as well as ancient documents from the Ii family, the former castle owner, on display. Known as a beautiful cherry blossom spot, the scenery of the cherry blossoms reflected on the surface of the moat is a wonderful scene where you can feel all four seasons of Japan.
