Ninna-ji temple

Ninna-ji Temple, is located in the western area in Kyoto. This is the head temple of the Shingon Buddhism Omuro school. Since it was built in 888 (Ninna), it was named after the original name of that era. Also In 1994, this temple was registered as a World Cultural Heritage as a cultural asset of the ancient city,Kyoto. Many of the buildings were destroyed by the 1467 Onin War, but about 160 years later, the buildings were relocated from the Imperial Palace, where the emperor lived, and revived. It is characterized by many prestigious Gosho style buildings. Even today, historical buildings such as the national treasure “Kindo”, important cultural properties “Five-storied pagoda”, “Niomon” and “Mikage-do” remain. In the precincts, the “Reihokan” houses the national treasure “Amitabha Sanson” and the important cultural property “Kichijo Tenten”, which will be open to the public in the spring and autumn treasure exhibitions. It is popular as a famous place for “Omurozakura”, which has a low tree height and late blooming, and light pink cherry blossoms add color to the grounds every spring.
