Katsura Rikyu is located on the west bank of the Katsura River in central Kyoto. This villa was built by the father and son of Hachijonomiya Toshihito Shinou in the Edo Era about 400 years ago, it took 50 years to build this and now it is managed by the Imperial Household Agency. The harmony between the garden, which is called the most excellent Japanese garden, and the buildings scattered throughout are highly evaluated. Also, to be recognized globally by the “Rediscovering Japanese Beauty” written by German architect Bruno Taut before the war.There is a pond in the center of a vast site of approximately 69,000 square meters. Around that, there are three bookhouses called Koshoin, Chushoin, and Shin Goten, and there is a tea house called Shokintei and Geparo with Kayabuki roof. Prior to visit or application on the day (first-come-first-served basis) is necessary for visit.
