Oko Falls
Oko Falls
Oko Falls locates in the western part of Yakushima. This fall, measuring 88 meters tall, has the largest number in both its scale and its volume of water among all the waterfalls that are scattered around the island. The figure of its water flowing down powerfully is simply overwhelming. It was also elected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls. Walk to the basin, and you can expose yourself to a bath of negative ions. Fresh water creatures including, rhinogobius and ghobies families live by the basin. You can also watch wild birds, such as kingfishers, by the riverside. On the nearby prefectural road, you can find the “oko-wakimizu” stream, which is one of the Selected 100 Exquisite and Well-conserved Waters by the Ministry of Environment.
