Akiyoshidai Plateau
Akiyoshidai Plateau
Akiyoshidai Plateau, in central Yamaguchi prefecture, is Japan’s largest karst plateau, measuring 45㎢. In 1955, the area was designated as Akiyoshi-dai Quasi-National Park, and in 1964 the plateau was named a special national scenic spot. On the plateau, you can find Akiyoshido Cave. There are many other limestone caves throughout the park grounds. The caves are a result of over 350 million years of rain and wind shaping the geography of the area. There are educational facilities in the park grounds as well, such as the Akiyoshidai Science Museum, Akiyoshidai Eco Museum and more. You can also enjoy activities such as cycling and trekking on the plateau.
