Izuruhara Benten Pond
Izuruhara Benten Pond
Izuruhara Benten Pond, in Sano, Tochigi, is a fresh spring pond that has been chosen as one of Japan’s 100 springs. The pond’s waters are strikingly transparent, allowing you to see through to the bottom of the pond. The waters are filtered through a limestone stratum, and have a steady temperature of around 16 degrees Celsius year-round. During the summer months, Izuruhara Benten Pond maintains a cool temperature. The fall foliage in the autumn too is a must-see. Nearby, you can find Isoyama Benzaiten Shrine, which has a history of over 1,000 years. The shrine was built without using a single nail. You can also visit Akami Onsen, which uses the water from Izuruhara Benten Pond.
