Yanagawa River
Yanagawa River locates in southern Fukuoka prefecture. The area was once a thriving castle town, and is still packed with traditional culture and architecture. A manmade waterway, measuring 60 kilometers, runs through the city, which served as protection from outside invaders. A popular tourist activity is the boat tours. The tours are conducted on a special boat called donko boat. The tours are about an hour long, and take you throughout the town. In the summer, there are special night tours, and in the winter the boats are decked with kotatsu heated tables. Unagi, or eel dishes, are popular in the area. There are many unagi restaurants with a long history in this area.
