Sado Kinzan
Sado Kinzan
Sado Kinzan is located in Niigata Prefecture's Sado Isalnd, which floats on the Sea of Japan. It is a gold mine developed by the Tokugawa shogunate in the early Edo Period. Directly controlled by the Tokugawa family at that time, Sado was governed by Sado Magistrate. After the Meiji Restoration, Sado Kinzan became a state-owned gold mine, and its operation halted in 1989. Now the remnants, the gold mine has facilities where visitors can experience the atmosphere at the time of its operation with the equipment used at that time still remaining in the stopes. The attraction of Sado Kinzan are events that take place using its facilities. Kitazawa Floatation Plant illuminated at night offers tourists an impressive view.
