Osado Skyline Starting from Sado Kinzan in Sado Isalnd, Niigata, Osado Skyline runs through the ridge of the Osado Mountains. Connecting Kanai and Aikawa, it is an approximately 30 km long road with an extensive view. The highest point is at an altitude of over 900 meters above sea level, overlooking the entire Sado Island including Mano Bay, Ryotsu Bay, the Kosado Mountains and Kuninaka Plain. On the way, there remains a forest that is almost primeval, where you can enjoy the nature's expressions that vary from season to season. In the vicinity of an altitude of 850 meters above sea level, Osado Skyline has an observation deck, a shop, and an exchange center, "Hakuundai" with a dining room. At night, you can enjoy the night view and starry sky of Sado City from the observation deck. At the store, you can purchase Sado specialties, and the dining room offers dishes with food from Sado.

Ushio Shrine Ushio Shrine is located near Lake Kamo in Sado City, Niigata Prefecture. It is a shrine that was built to separately enshrine some gods of Izumo Taisha (Izumo Great Shrine) in 792, and it is familiarly known as "Tenou-san of Katagami." The worship hall is solemn, and on the front, sides and back, you can see the sculptures designated as Sado City's tangible cultural property. Animals and plants including tigers and carp and stories about Emperor Juntoku are finely sculpted in three dimensions. In front of the worship hall stands an approximately 1,000-year-old holy tree, which is popular as a spiritual energy site that blesses people with easy delivery and children. Next to the hall is a stage of "Noh", which has been popular as one of the traditional performing arts of Sado Island. On June 12 every year, Takigi Noh is performed on the stage, whose roof is hip-and-gable tiled in front and hipped in back.

Toki Forest Park Toki Forest Park is located in the central part of Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture, in the Eastern Kuninaka Plain. It is a park adjacent to Sado Toki (Japanese crested ibis) Conservation Center, and has Toki-related facilities all over. The park has two facilities: Toki Fureai Plaza (Toki Rapport Plaza) and Toki Archive Exhibition Hall. Toki Fureai Plaza is a large cage that closely replicates tokis' natural habitat, and there you can see tokis flying, eating food, and making nests just as they do in the wild. If you are lucky, you can observe tokis at a short distance of several centimeters from them through the magic mirror in the observation passage. Toki Archive Exhibition Hall displays stuffed and skeletal specimens of tokis as well as videos and panels on breeding under protection and return to the wild. The building has an observation corridor, from which you can observe tokis in the adjacent Sado Toki Conservation Center through the window. There are shops near the entrance of the park, and in particular, Edamame soft serve made with Sado's edamame is popular.

Senkaku Bay Ageshima Amusement Park Senkaku Bay Ageshima Yuen is located on Senkaku Bay, the Northwestern Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture. Senkaku Bay is the collective name of five small bays that extend about 3 km along the coastline of Aikawa area, and is a scenic spot that has been designated as a semi-national park and one of Japan's 100 Scenic Foreshores. Senkaku Bay Ageshima Yuen is a complex tourist facility located in Ageshima Kyo Bay of Senkaku Bay. From the observation deck in the park, you can see the magnificent view of the continuum of 30m-class rocky cliffs. From the boarding point, the underwater observation boat starts every 15 minutes. The ship's bottom is partly made of glass, allowing you to see swimming fishes and seaweeds undersea. The popular menus at the snack corner is “Sazae no Tsuboyaki (turbo cooked in its own shell)” and “Yakiika (grilled squid),” which are famous specialties of Senkaku Bay. Offering tub boat rides and an adventure playground for children, the park can be enjoyed by an entire family.

Sado Kinzan Sado Kinzan is located in Niigata Prefecture's Sado Isalnd, which floats on the Sea of Japan. It is a gold mine developed by the Tokugawa shogunate in the early Edo Period. Directly controlled by the Tokugawa family at that time, Sado was governed by Sado Magistrate. After the Meiji Restoration, Sado Kinzan became a state-owned gold mine, and its operation halted in 1989. Now the remnants, the gold mine has facilities where visitors can experience the atmosphere at the time of its operation with the equipment used at that time still remaining in the stopes. The attraction of Sado Kinzan are events that take place using its facilities. Kitazawa Floatation Plant illuminated at night offers tourists an impressive view.

Daizen Shrine Daizen Shrine stands in the countryside of Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture. It is a historical shrine with an honorable origin, and according to one theory, its history started in the 9th century. The highlight of the shrine property is "Daize Shrine Noh Stage". In Sado Island, where traditional Japanese performing arts "Noh" has been popular since ancient times, it is the oldest Noh stage in existence. The Noh stage with a thatched roof was reconstructed in 1846 and has been designated as a tangible folk cultural property of Niigata Prefecture. Though only a pine tree is usually painted on Kagamiita (backdrop of a Noh stage), the backdrop of this stage also has a painting of the sun, making it rare and extremely valuable among many Noh stages. Every year on April 18, an annual Noh performance called "Hono Noh" is performed as an offering to God. In June, you can see "Takigi Noh", which is performed by a flame at night, and a traditional comedy "Sagiryu Kyogen."
Shukunegi Shukunegi is located in the Niigata Prefecture's Sado Island floating on the Sea of Japan. It is a district where many traditional buildings are preserved. Having prospered for maritime transportation business in the late Edo Period, the town was designated as Japan's Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings in 1991. The area’s highlights are Sankakuya, which is characterized by the triangle shape and has been designated as the city's monument, and the ship mooring stone that was used to fix ships. The precious remnants lead you to visualize the conditions at the time of its prosperity. In the vicinity is "Sado Geopark,” you can fully enjoy the nature of Sado Island through such activities as walking. There are several model courses available, allowing you to choose the one you like.

Sado Legend Hall Sado Legend Hall is a museum located in Sado City in Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture. Here dolls tell you stories about the history of Sado Island in the 1200s. They introduce traditional roots of Sado mainly about people appearing in the medieval Japanese history, such as Zeami, who developed Noh (a major form of Japanese traditional performing arts), and Emperor Juntoku, who was exiled to Sado Island. The museum precisely reproduces many of the famous historical scenes. In addition, there is also an exhibition hall for the craft works by Sasaki Shodo, a living national treasure from Sado who was a successful metal casting craftsman. At the store, you can purchase specialty products of Sado such as Japanese sweets and folk art items which are unique to Sado Legend Hall. At the restaurant, you can enjoy seafood of Sado in the middle of a Japanese garden.

Sado Island Sado Island, which floats on the Sea of Japan, is located in the Western Niigata Prefecture. Boasting an area of 855 km and a circumference of approximately 280 km, it is the largest Japanese island in the Sea of Japan. Though it was designated as a penal colony to which sinners were sent during the Nara Period, during the Edo Period, the development of the gold and silver mine was promoted with the island directly governed by the Shogunate. Its current population is about 56,000. The island's rich soil is made use for rice production, fruit cultivation, and livestock industry as well as landing various fish and shellfish including crabs, shrimps, yellowtails, and oysters. On Sado Island, which is rich in nature with 1,700 types of plants, you can also see the beautiful coastal topography represented by Senkaku Bay. In addition, the culture of Sado Island is a distinctive one, which is a fusion of the aristocratic culture brought in by aristocrats who were exiled to this land, the samurai culture transmitted by officials from Edo with the development of the mine, and the townspeople culture that came in with merchants and sailors. Noh (a major form of classical Japanese musical drama) and Onidaiko are well-known. Onidaiko is a form of classical performing arts which is unique to Sado.
