Sessho-seki
Sessho-seki
「Sessho-seki」, is located north east of Tochigiken in a town called Nasuchou near Nasuyumoto onsen. This famous site is on the way from the boardwalk to Nasutakaharatenboudai. It is also known for the historic site left from the myth of the nine tailed fox. The smell of sulphur covers the air as you look at the bleak view made from the many surrounding rocks. A poet, Matsuo Bashou wrote "oku no hosomichi", which was about the feelings he felt at sessho-seki. In 2014, it was officially recognized as a famous place from the country after it was mentioned as one of the places in "oku no hosomichi". Every May, a festival filled with local culture, called "gojinkasai", is held.
