Bijinbayashi Forest

Bijinbayashi Forest locates in the city of Tokamachi in the southern part of Niigata prefecture. It is a beech forest, and its name translates to “beauty forest”. It was given this name since it grew back beautifully even after it was deforested in the early years of the Showa Period (1926 - 1989). The forest is known for its views that change throughout the seasons. In the spring, you can see the new leaves beginning to grow. The forests then become rich in green in the summer, which turn into oranges and yellows in the fall. As winter arrives, the forest becomes covered in snow. In Tokamachi, there are other breathtaking sights such as Kiyotsu Gorge and Hoshitoge Terraced Rice Fields.
