Fushimi Area
Fushimi is an area in the southern part of Kyoto city. It was once the castle town of Fushimi Castle, which was under feudal lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s rule. In Fushimi, there are seven fresh springs. Because of the high-quality water, high-quality sake was made in Fushimi as well. Even today, there are many restaurants in the area that serve delicious Fushimi sake. You can find the Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum in Fushimi. Here, a traditional sake brewery from the Meiji Period (1868 – 1912) is preserved. There are also sake tastings available here, too. Between March and December, special tourist boats called Jikkokubune and Sanjikkokubune area available. Ride on these boats and explore the traditional streets of Fushimi!
