Inami Betsuin Zuisenji Temple
Inami Betsuin Zuisenji Temple
The Inami Betsuin Zuisenji Temple is located in Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture. It was built in 1390 by the Jōdo Shinshū Buddhist priest, Shakunyo Shonin, and has flourished as the center of the Jōdo Shinshū faith in the Hokuriku region. The temple has burned down three times since it was built. The current main hall was rebuilt in 1886. The highlight of Zuisenji Temple are the intricate wooden carvings that can be found all over the temple. The temple is the origin of the wood carving that the Inami area is famous for, and the carvers have painstakingly designed even the smallest details here. The main temple gate carvings should definitely a must see. The great technical skill of the carver can be observed in the carvings of dragons and the Eight Immortals on the main gate. In the treasure hall, many temple treasures like a reproduction of the “Pictorial Biography of Prince Shotoku” and Giyaman porcelain are displayed.
