Kumagawa Old Town
Kumagawa Old Town, located in Wakasa town of southern west Fukui Prefecture, is a post town of Sabakaidou that connects Wakasa and Kyoto. Many buildings and artifacts, such as irrigation channels, the magistrate’s office building, a guardhouse, and old documents and diaries, have been preserved. After being designated as an important preservation district of historic buildings, this town was named a Japanese Heritage in 2015. In addition, the festival, “Tekkan Festival”, that was previously put at rest, restarted in 1998. Other events, such as the “Kumagawa Ippuku era village”, takes place every fall. Within this event, activities including powerful car rides, fish races, and more take over the area.
