Naha Muncipal Tsuboya Pottery Museum
Naha Muncipal Tsuboya Pottery Museum
Naha Municipal Tsuboya Pottery Museum examines the historical and cultural background of Okinawa’s traditional Tsuboya-yaki ceramics.
The museum stands in the Tsuboya area, which has thrived with pottery making since the days of the Ryukyu kingdom. Visitors can learn about the history, production methods and techniques of Yachimun, which means pottery in the local dialect. An area reenacting traditional Okinawan homes offers a glimpse of life in the past, while other items tell how Tsuboya-yaki ceramics played a role in Okinawa’s past diplomacy. The nearby Tsuboya Yachimun-dori street is full of charming pottery shops. Enjoy a quiet stroll along this old cobblestone alley located just a few blocks from the main tourist drag of Naha Kokusai Dori street.
