Kouraku Kiln Tokunaga Ceramics Co., Ltd.

Kouraku Kiln is located in Arita, in the southwestern prefecture of Saga. The kiln of over 150 years is always seeking to innovate. The factory produces both traditional and contemporary tableware incorporating old Imari-style techniques. Artists are often assigned to work on the more contemporary and unique pieces. Visitors at Kouraku Kiln can see craftspeople apply traditional and innovation to create top quality Aritayaki porcelain. Kouraku Kiln also runs various activities related to ceramics. One program, known as “Treasure Hunting”, is highly popular with Japanese and overseas visitors. This 90-minute program allows participants to select as many Aritayaki pieces from the warehouse as they like. For more serious potters, Koraku Kiln runs an art residency program. Artists and designers are welcomed at the HAPPY LUCKY GUEST HOUSE on a long-term basis and given access to various facilities within the premises, as well as technical advice.
