Tsubonuma Hachiman Shrine

Tsubonuma Hachiman Shrine

"Tsubonuma Hachiman Shrine" is located in Sendai City, southern part of Miyagi Prefecture. It is the oldest shrine in Sendai. The ancient Tsubonuma Hachiman Shrine, which lasts for more than 1,000 years, is famous as a place of prayer for victory because of the deep religion of Genji during the Heian period. The main priest deity enshrines the Emperor Ojin, and the shrine enshrines his father, Empress Shinko and Shunai Takeuchi. A shrine hidden behind a mountain called "Totoro Mountain" is watching the Tsubonuma area as a guardian. Tsubonuma Hachiman Shrine is also known for its fireflies. Carefully maintained rice fields are the gift of local volunteers working to protect the environment in order to protect the fireflies. The "Hotara Heike Biwa Evening" held every June is an event where you can enjoy the performance of the "Heike Biwa" and watch the fireflies, like "Genji Firefly". Now, if you enjoy the performances of a few Heike biwa players and watch the fleeting flying fireflies, you will feel as if you had slipped back in time 1,000 years ago.
