Oceanic Culture Museum is located in the Okinawa Commemorative National Government Park, also known as ”Ocean Expo Park”.You can learn about the history of the Pacific ocean, which is also closely connected to the way Japan and Okinawa came to be, through around 750 exhibited items. On the 1st floor is the entrance hall, the 2nd floor is the ”Oceania Zone”, 3rd floor is the ”Navigation Zone”. Besides these zones, you can also find many different exhibits, like the ”Interaction Zone”, ”Community Hall” and the ”Okinawa Zone”. They also have an exhibition that displays video materials on a big screen, and a 30-meter long comic strip exhibition, which is the first of it’s kind in Japan. They also have big canoes that were used in inland trade on display. There are also workshops where you can create an Oceania-style mask and a constellation sheet, and a photo corner where you can get on a ”sabani”, a fishing boat that was used in the Ryukyu Islands long ago. The museum is a place that everyone from children to adults can enjoy. In the ”Planetarium Hall”, you can see a replica of a starry sky with a maximum of 140 million stars. The planetarium presents many different programs, including ”Okinawa’s Beautiful Stars”, which introduces Okinawa’s constellations and folklores.
