Old Maruyama Substation

Old Maruyama Substation
The Maruyama Substation was built in 1912, and was used on the Usui Pass Railway Line in Gunma. It was a significant station and train line used to connect Yokokawa Station in Gunma and Karuizawa Station in Nagano. The substation became unused in 1963, when the shinkansen (bullet train) started to run in the area. In 1994, the Old Maruyama Substation was designated as an important cultural property, and construction to rebuild the substation began. Although currently, you cannot enter inside, you can see the substation from outside.
