Fujisaki Bingata Studio
Fujisaki Bingata Studio is located in Nago city, Okinawa. It is a studio making the traditional Okinawan dyed textile "Ryukyu Bingata". The making of Ryukyu Bingata uses a unique Okinawan style of dyeing, using pigments and plant dyes such as indigo, fukugi (Happiness tree), hirugi (Mangrove) to place patterns onto cloth. Fujisaki Bingata Studio also creates original patterns and a variety of lively artistic designs that express the vibrant natural life of the Yambaru region. Fujisaki Bingata Studio continues to commit itself to the preservation of traditional techniques, and the careful selection of natural Okinawan plant dyes. You can buy a variety of special Ryukyu Bingata artworks at the shop next to the studio. If you want to learn about Ryukyu Bingata dyeing, which has been handed down as part of Okinawa's unique culture, I greatly recommend attending their Bingata dying workshops. In the 60-minute workshop, you will take in Okinawa's unique culture of textile-making while learning the dyeing techniques firsthand.
