Chatsubomigoke Moss Park
Chatsubomigoke Moss Park
Chatsubomigoke Moss Park, locating Gunma’s Agatsuma district, is a unique park with rare mosses. In the park, you can see the chatsubomigoke moss, a rare type of moss that can only survive by highly acidic waters. The chatsubomigoke moss is designated as a national natural monument. Even throughout Japan, the only places where the moss can be found are here in Agatsuma and in Aso, Kumamoto. Although the park is closed off during the winter months, there are special irregular snowshoe events held here and there. The moss and the hot acidic springs surrounded by snow is an ethereal sight.
