Dotonbori
Dotonbori
"Dotonbori" is located in "Minami," downtown Central Osaka. The large signboard seen from Ebisu Bridge, has become a staple photo spot in Osaka. It was named after Doton Yasui, who is believed to have sold off his private property to build a moat about 400 years ago. After that, theaters were built one after another according to the Shogunate's policy, and the number of restaurants serving theater audiences also increased in the area. As time passed, many of the theaters have disappeared. However, the area still has many famous restaurants that serve local foods, such as Takoyaki (octopus balls) and Okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancakes), making Dotonbori the center of Osaka's “eat and eat” culture.
