Senjogahara Marshland
Senjogahara Marshland
Senjogahara Marshland is a part of Nikko National Park, and locates 1,400 meters above sea level. According to legend, this is where the deities of Mount Nantai and Mount Akagi (in Gunma) fought over Lake Chuzenji, and that is where the name “Senjogahara” (“senjo 戦場 means battlefield) came from. The marshland is filled with over 300 types of plants, and is also home to a wide species of wild birds. The area is a vibrant green color in the spring, and in June, you can see the fluffy, white, hare’s-tale cottongrass covering the field. During autumn, the marshland is covered in colored grass. You can enjoy these seasonal views from the provided hiking path.
