Omi Hachiman

The Omihachiman area is located in Omihachiman city, Shiga Prefecture. As one of the three largest merchant cities in Japan, it has prospered since Hideyoshi Toyotomi built Hachiman Castle in 1585. Even today, the original houses of that era exist and the traditional townscape has been preserved.

There are many famous places such as the Kawara Museum, a rare exhibition place in Japan specializing in roof tiles, and the Nimurei Hachimangu Shrine, where the powerful Omi Hachiman Fire Festival is held every April.

You can enjoy looking down on the view of Omihachiman and wide Lake Biwa from an altitude of 271m if you ride to the summit of Mt. Hachiman by the ropeway operating near Nimurei Hachimangu Shrine.
