Oshi kyu togawa house

Oshi kyu togawa house
Oshi Kyu Togawa-ke Residence is located in Kamiyoshida district, Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture. The main chamber (built in 1768) and the sub-chamber (built in 1860) have been designated important cultural assets of Mt. Fuji’s history. Mt. Fuji has been an important cultural icon for the Japanese people since old times, and attracted many pilgrims who saw the landscape as sacred. While being worshippers themselves, the Oshi were caretakers to these pilgrims. They provided accommodation and assistance, while continuing their own spiritual practices. 86 Oshi houses existed in the area to support the mountain worshippers, and the Togawa family was among them. In the building, an altar dedicated to the mountain god, and displays of the Oshi outfits will provide you with a deep understanding of their lives. Guided tours are available upon request at reception.
