Koko-en Garden
Koko-en Garden
Koko-en is a Japanese-style garden located in Himeji City, in southwestern Hyogo Prefecture. This garden was opened to celebrate the city’s 100-year anniversary, and covers an area of approximately 30,000㎡.
The garden takes its name from Koko-do, a public school built by the last-ruling Sakai family of the feudal Himeji domain during the Edo Period. The garden offers a glamorous view of an exquisite Japanese garden, and Himeji Castle behind it.
The park has nine gardens surrounded by gates and walls that reproduce architecture from the Edo period. The highlight is the connecting hallway that runs over the house’s garden.
The hallway has views of the elegant garden on both sides, and it is a picture-perfect spot where you can enjoy a scenery that varies from season to season. Combination tickets that grant admission to both Koko-en and Himeji Castle are available, and would make a great addition to your trip here too.
