Himeji City Aquarium
"Himeji City Aquarium" is located in Himeji city of southern Hyogo prefecture. It is an aquarium consisting three areas, the new building, the main building, and the rooftop biotope, where creatures of the southwestern part of Hyogo, the Harima region, are displayed and introduced. The new building features mainly on freshwater fishes including creatures living in rice fields and reservoirs along with African spurred tortoises. Exhibits of the main building focuses on fishes of the sea, where you can not only see popular marine creatures such as sea turtles and penguins, but also mammals such as nutrias. The "Touch Pool" is an attraction where you can touch sea urchins and starfish, and events such as feeding penguins are also held regularly, which are popular among children. At the rooftop biotope is a reproduction of a natural pond of the Harima region. You can also enjoy playing and touching fishes at the "Jabujabu Creek".
