Shimanto River
The Shimanto River begins in the town of Tsuno in Kochi prefecture and makes its way to Shimanto City on the southern coast of Kochi. It is the longest river in the Shikoku region and measures 196 kilometers with an area of 2,186㎢. On the river, locals catch fish such as ayu (sweet fish) using traditional methods. The fish are caught individually and then eaten, usually grilled and seasoned with salt. You can enjoy Shimanto River in many different ways, such as by boat, canoe, bus tours and more. There are many festivals and events held by the river annually, where you can interact with locals and enjoy the surrounding nature.
