Horikawa Sightseeing Boat
Horikawa Sightseeing Boat
The Horikawa Sightseeing boat takes a trip around the Matsue Castle, a national treasure site located in Shimane prefecture. The boat ride takes place in a moat. The castle and the moat were created in 1611, and it is rare to see both a castle and a moat remaining from the Edo period (1602 – 1867). A small, traditional style boat takes you on the journey. The entire course is about 3.7 kilometers, and takes 50 minutes. Throughout the ride, you will see both buildings from the Edo period and more modern buildings as well. In the summer, the boats are decked with furin, or wind chimes. The entire boat is lit up during the fall night cruises. The winter ship has a built-in kotatsu, a Japanese heated blanket table.
