Matsue Castle
Matsue Castle
Matsue Castle locates in central Shimane prefecture, and is one of the 12 remaining castle keeps in Japan. The castle was built in 1611 by feudal lord Horio Yoshiharu. In 2015, the castle was designated as a national treasure. The castle has five layers, and inside are many hidden rooms and bretèches. You can see the basement too, where you can find a well and some storage. From the top floor, you can get a view of the city of Matsue. The stonewalls of the castle, too, are one of its main sights. The castle is a part of Matsue Jozan Park. The park is beautiful in the spring, with its many cherry blossoms blooming. You can take a boat tour on the moat around the castle. In the winter, the boats are equipped with heated kotatsu tables.
