Tsuruga Castle
Tsuruga Castle locates in Aizuwakamatsu City of Fukushima prefecture. It is also referred to as the (Aizu) Wakamatsu Castle due to its location. The castle was built in 1384, and its area measures 280,000㎡. It is said to have been even larger during its peak days. It was destroyed during the Boshin War in the late 1800s, but it was re-built in 1965. There is a museum built on the castle grounds where you can learn about the feudal history of the Aizu region. From the top of the castle tower is a beautiful view of the entire castle town. There is also a teahouse located on the castle grounds, called Rinkaku, where you can enjoy the historical atmosphere and have a cup of matcha. The area around the castle is now a park with over 1,000 cherry blossom trees. Every mid-April, you can see the cherry blossom flowers on these trees bloom.
