Korakukan Theater

Korakukan Theater
Korakukan Theater, in the town of Kosaka in Akita prefecture, is the oldest theater in Japan. It was built in 1910, and has a retro, western exterior. Visitors can tour the theater without having to watch a show. There are displays explaining the history of the theater. The theater props here are rare, and you can see them up close. Between mid-April and early November, special performances by the theater group “Shitamachi Kabuki-gumi” are held 2 to 3 times a day. Their performances are full of laughs and heartfelt storylines.
