Mount Iwate locates in Hachimantai National Park in Iwate prefecture. It is the highest mountain in the prefecture, measuring 2,038 meters tall. It is an active volcano, and has erupted 5 times, with its most recent large eruption in the late 1700s. The mountain opens for hiking in July every year, and people from all over Japan come to climb Mount Iwate. There are seven trails to choose from, and some are well paved so hikers can trek comfortably. From the top of Mount Iwate awaits a spectacular view of Mount Hakkoda, Mount Chokai and more. During hiking season (July 1 to mid-October), the shack on the eighth station is open. In the shack, you can find hiking necessities.
